Active Directory: Microsoft’s core directory service provides a centralized management point for user accounts, groups, computers, and policies. From this one point, organizations can control their Windows-based desktops (through Group Policy) as well as provide a platform for centralizing authentication for non–Windows-based systems (using LDAP, Kerberos, or RADIUS).
Exchange Server: When used in conjunction with Outlook (part of Microsoft Office), Microsoft Exchange Server provides an outstanding platform for e-mail, information sharing, and collaboration.
Internet Information Systems (IIS): Microsoft’s bundled web, FTP, and SMTP services provide easy building blocks for Internet standards-based communications. Despite popular belief otherwise, it is possible to keep an IIS installation reasonably secure, too.
