Internet Access VLAN and Firewall InstallationA hotel wanted to add high-speed Internet access to the guest rooms, but needed those rooms to remain isolated from the hotel's production network. Mercurion Systems worked with the hotel's IT staff to install a stack of HP ProCurve switches and a Cisco PIX firewall to add Internet access to the guest rooms without compromising the hotel network's security. We used multiple VLANs to segregate traffic from the guest rooms to the firewall, from the firewall to the external router, and from the switches themselves (management traffic) to the hotel's production network. Separate DHCP and DNS functionality was provided for the guest rooms VLAN, and we configured the firewall with SSH connectivity for remote management.
