Worldwide Deployment of Active Directory on Windows Server 2003Mercurion Systems was heavily involved in this migration for a health sciences company. Working closely with the customer’s internal IT resources and an additional consulting firm (responsible for the overseas migrations), we designed an Active Directory design consisting of multiple child domains with an empty root domain. Upon approval of the design, Mercurion Systems created processes and procedures to migrate user accounts from a third-party LDAP directory, Novell Directory Services, and legacy Windows NT 4.0 domains into the new Active Directory domain(s). We also create a migration process that enabled the seamless migration of the customer’s Windows 2000 Professional-based workstations and the users’ profiles. End-users were automatically migrated upon login from the old domain(s) to Active Directory with no changes whatsoever to their desktop settings. The Active Directory migration for this customer also laid the groundwork for several additional projects, including a migration of their e-mail system to Exchange Server 2003 and a migration of file/print services from Novell NetWare to Windows Server 2003.
